Looking for a digital camera for everyday use and maybe to shoot some good quality photos without spending a lot of money, maybe the Nikon Coolpix A10 can help.

This small and very versatile is the cheapest cameras from Nikon but does not entirely compromise on quality and can surely be used for anyone who is just getting into photography or just want a camera for casual use.

How about we find out the main outstanding points of the camera.

  • Extremely light device with dimensions 16.8 x 12.6 x 11 cm
  • Display screen size of 2.7 inches
  • An optical zoom of 5x
  • Multiple scene modes and effects
  • 16.1 megapixels lens and 720 p HD video recording capabilities

So these were the major talking points of the compact camera,Now let us explore each category of  the device

We mentioned earlier that the digital camera is extremely light and very compact as we think this was the motive of the device to make it portable and could be easily compared to some thin smartphones out there as it can be fitted inside the pockets.

The Nikon Coolpix A10 is built from plastic and is actually entirely made of of solid plastic but is still firm and feels well built.

The battery slots are accessed from the bottom and the bulge is quite clear on the right side of the camera and frankly it gives the camera a good look and feels rather stylish.

The camera has textured finish at the back and does not easily slip but using a strap would be recommended, the thumb rest is textured with a slightly uplifted button for recording videos. With the menu clearly laid out so that any rookie can easily access and understand the functionality.

The front of the device does not speak much and has the usual lens which pops out when zoomed in on an object and above it on the top right corner is the flash for low light conditions.

Display on the device is not so good as would be expected from such a device of this cost as it has a screen of size 2.7 inches and has a 230 k dot resolution which is seen in most of the cameras in this range,to cut the manufacturing costs this type of displays is usually used so that the price of the product can be kept at a minimum.

The LCD screen does look rather shabby but not to an extent that you would not be able to operate it at all.The screen does look pixelated but ensures quick response when operated using the menu.

The contrast ratios are average and the viewing angles are negligent of sorts but the images or the videos can be watched quite easily outdoors and in sunlight as it is quite bright.

The Nikon Coolpix A10 has a 16.1 megapixel lens which captures the shots and images quite nicely and the contrasts are good and visible,in low light the camera performs above average and tends to capture the images nicely but little bit on the dark side which can be ignored.

The camera has a CCD sensor and they integrate quite well with the  camera to provide a good shooting experience and the color reproductions are rather fine with little bit of noise which are softened out by the processor present in the camera.

The camera has 5 x zoom functionality and one can view good images and sharp images when fully zoomed on rather that broken down pixelated ones.

You can easily change the ISO settings of the Coolpix A10 to view better zoom images and improve the shots.

Video recording can be done in 720 p which is an amazing feature with blur stabilization  and the exposure can be toggled from -2 to +2 according to preference.

You can easily leave the mode selection and the scene detection to the camera itself as it is able to automatically adjust to the best scene and provide best results according to the environment.

Nikon provided six creative filters to select from in this camera which are:

  • Sepia
  • Monochrome
  • Color
  • Pop
  • Cyanotype
  • Mirror

Also you can manually select from 15 scene modes in the Nikon Coolpix A10 and can experiment which suits you the best,The blink mode can tell if a person is blinking while taking a portrait mode shot and the face detection feature is quite decent.

The playback mode effect can also be applied to a video and the camera can show and one can preview an effect before it is being applied with the press of the OK button. And moreover more inbuilt modes can be accessed from the menu like rotate, resize, softening etc

We think that the Nikon Coolpix A10 is a great purchase for anyone who is just getting started in photography or maybe just wants a casual digital camera at a reasonable cost.

The camera shoots decent images and can record HD videos, also you can try out many modes and inbuilt features which come along with it.

So if you are not satisfied with your smartphone camera and want to transition into the world of digital camera then this the right product for you.
